One of the first items on my "to-do's" for 2013 is to go through my closet, get organized, weed out items that can be donated, and try to re-focus my wardrobe. As you can tell, my style tends to be on the classic side with a hint of "sometimes I dress like I am still ten years old." Since becoming a young professional, I have began to feel like my wardrobe needs to become a bit more streamlined and focused on the future of my business/myself as a brand. This year I am determined to spend less on silly filler items and more on investment pieces that can maintain their wear for years to come. Above are a few items that I think are staples in every woman's wardrobe {and worth the extra pennies!}.
A new year is the perfect time to tackle that extra weight that has been looming in your closet. If you're interested in my help, please check out my services and email me to schedule a closet consultation!

What a great goal for 2013! I just did a big closet purge and reorganization and could not be happier!

I love the pieces you chose to feature in your post. I totally agree with the weeding out of the closet on your to do list. I currently have a couple bags of clothes to be donated to charity, but I know there's more in my closet so I need to start getting cutthroat and really getting rid of items I just don't wear anymore.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
i love a good burberry trench! i totally agree on keeping staples in your wardrobe, im trying to be more careful and to buy more of that stuff rather than trendy items

Love your picks. I go for classic pieces with small punches of trend myself. Definitely thinking about doing a online personal shopping/inspiration session with you as I start to shed some baby pounds later this year. Thinking it'll be time for a closet reboot!

I need to remember to not always give in and buy a bunch of trendy stuff, classic is such a good investment and always, always is in!
ReplyDeleteMy big weekend plans are a birthday dinner and cleaning out my closest! You're right, time to make room for some more classic pieces, and old things that I'm not saving from college just for whatever reason. It will feel good to donate things too. Happy cleaning!
ReplyDeleteI started doing this when I was packing for vacation, which mostly involved throwing out every single thing I owned from forever21.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great resolution... and I seriously love every single thing on your wish list.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great resolution and something I've been thinking about lately.

I love the leopard claire vivier clutch! Been eyeing it forever but $180 just feels like a lot to spend on a clutch...haha. Love everything you picked! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! I want to start investing more in classics :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Such good ideas, Liz! I'm with you... it's time to refresh and get organzied for 2013!
ReplyDeleteI plan to do this too. I've been increasingly frustrated with my wardrobe lately and really need to remove the pieces I never wear and stop buying those types of things altogether! Great advice! xo

I love the roundup! That camel bag has been on my list forever as well as a good pair of red flats/pumps. I also loooove the striped cashmere sweater. its a fun twist on a necessary basic. You've re-inspired me to be more deliberate in my purchases this year

i got that Lim bag for christmas and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutly love this post - this is me over the past year. I let a few too many impulse buys get me in early summer but not this year!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea to start a new year! I've been trying to build up a better wardrobe myself, and enjoy seeing your picks for staples!
ReplyDeleteLove all the pieces here and agree that these are classic pieces worth investing in and spending a little money for because they are timeless and will never go out of style!

Gorgeous picks! Love the pop of color on the neckline of the dress!
ReplyDeleteGreat looks, I am in need of a new pair of skinnies that are actually flattering...
ReplyDeleteIn other news, we are hosting a handbag sale over at my store, check it: www.girlsnestbestfriend.com
Love this post Liz! My husband + I deemed this the year of purging...going through the entire house (clothes included) and streamlining.
ReplyDeleteEnough of the filler stuff....let's focus on the quality items!

i have been trying so hard to add more staples to my wardrobe. but i do have a tendency to dress like a 10 year old every once in a while. i'm quite good about cleaning out my closet. i did it in october but this makes me want to do it again.
ReplyDeleteThat trench coat is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGosh! That Burberry trench would be such a fabulous investment!
ReplyDeletePS- Don't feel bad ; ) I sometimes tend to dress like I'm 10 years old, too

There are so many sweaters that need to be retired in my closet. Equipment blouses and pretty jeans are on my wishlist for the new year!
ReplyDeleteCleaning out my closet is my favorite thing to do! I absolutely love going through it, makes me feel much better. Excellent choices with your essentials - multi-season/multi-functional.
ReplyDeleteThis is on my list as well. I have so many things I don't wear or use! I'm moving to a much smaller place so downsizing isn't an option.
ReplyDeleteThe Philip Lim bag is all I want... Good choice!

I always justify more expensive purchases with the fact that I overall purchase less items, and rather items of higher quality. I never seem to find items I truly like at the lower end (in price and quality) stores anyway! I cleaned out my closet last week and I love going into it every morning and being able to see everything organized. It's such a great feeling! Good luck with your cleaning and streamlining!
